Barn Life 2021: A Vermont AirBnB Review

Serene Barn Retreat – Dummerston, Vermont

In June 2021, one of my besties and I headed to Vermont to switch up our routine. The goal was to reset and recenter before the official start of summer. We stayed in this AirBnb which was originally a barn before the owner renovated it into apartments. We spent a lot of time between here and Brattleboro which you can learn about here in another blog post.

Often times we are so attracted to the more popular cities that we forgot to check around the area for hidden gems like these. Instead of staying in the well known city of Brattleboro, it can sometimes be more beneficial for the traveler to stay in a place like this in Dummerston. It is adjacent to the more frequented city but more tranquil and reflective of the local mountain life.

Taking in the serene barn vibes

Dummerston is a hilly, rough road destination that reflects the local culture of maintaining the nature in its pure form. The accommodation definitely matched up to this mentality. Every detail is carefully laid out to connect you with your surroundings. The details are precise and simple, allowing you to take it all in and relax.

First Floor

The barn loft has two floors. The first floor has an ample kitchen with rustic decor. You will find everything you need hear form cooking wear, utensils, spices, and oil. The gracious host, Brianna, also provides coffee, tea, sugar, chocolate, granola, and yogurt.

What’s waiting for you in your full barn kitchen

Between the kitchen and living room is a dining table for two which looks out to the lush, green backyard space. Some of my favorite barn moments were spent drinking my morning coffee looking out on the greenery and wildlife.

Second Floor

One of the best details of the barn is the woodwork. The warm wood tones mixed with the local decor is relaxing and cozy.

My favorite detail: the double wooden staircase

On the second floor of the barn is a beautiful loft area with two queen beds. There is also a large, open closet with hangers and a top shelf to store all your items. The small loft windows line one wall and open to the same lush backyard that is visible from both floors.

Even in the heat, the loft area stayed relatively cool in the evenings especially with the help of fans provided. The beds were extremely comfortable and the simple layout is conducive to a clear mind and a good night’s rest.

The Host

The Serene Barn Retreat is run by superhost Brianna. She lives on the property with her family in a separate home. There are also other tenants who live in the other barn apartments full time.

Brianna was an excellent communicator and it is clear she is extremely thoughtful of all her guest’s needs. She is warm and friendly and gave us great recommendations of things to do and places to eat in the area. You can find her in her garden where she grows spices and food. It was a joy to meet her!

Book your stay

If you are interested in staying at the Serene Barn Retreat, you can find the full details here on AirBnb. This accomodation is best for people who are able to drive on unpaved, hilly roads, who want a peaceful experience in nature, and for those who enjoy off the beaten path experiences.

Although this location is isolated in the beautiful, rural mountains of Dummerston, the bigger town of Brattleboro as well as major highway routes are extremely close.

Enjoy!
